FLOWERS &
FIELDS

Most, if not all, of the flowers and fields that Elinor depicted in her work were based off of real locations. Although these locations may look drastically different today than they did when Elinor was inspired by them, as is the case with “Floyd River Farm,” Elinor’s work functions as a sort of freeze frame, preserving the landscape the way that it was as she was creating.

Seeking to see beauty in all things, Elinor often re-created floral arrangements or individual flowers in her prints. When discussing Elinor’s captivatingly intricate serigraph print entitled “Summer Bouquet,” her daughter-in-law, Renee, noted that she recognizes the background as the back deck of Elinor’s home.
Growing up in Northwest Iowa surrounded by farmland, Elinor saw beauty in freshly plowed fields displaying the beauty that can be found in the order and structure of ordinary things when they are approached with loving attention.
